Blue Monday

The start of a new week. What does that look like to you?

We have all been there. Monday begins and everyone is negative, nothing seems to flow right, the week looks like an eternity and the weekend just wasn't enough to do everything you wanted to do. We find ourselves saying "It's a Monday" with a sigh and resign ourselves to "Monday Blues."

Here's the thing: blue is a terrific color. I look at the intense blue October sky and feel rejuvenated. I look at the blue of the Caribbean Ocean and I feel tranquil. The blue in my husband's eyes lets me know that love is real and powerful. So how is it that we translate the color blue to depressing moments?

It is all about the perspective. We have been conditioned all our lives to equate the color blue to feelings of depression or sadness. We have related to it in such a way that we automatically link the color to the feeling and let it become reality - even though it really isn't truth.

I want to challenge you this week. Instead of starting your day with "the blues" I would like you to focus on one thing that makes the day special. For everything that seems bad about the beginning of the week, take a minute to find the opportunity in that situation. Then post a comment - I can't wait to see how amazing your blues become!

Your choice

As a mom of three boys I have had some interesting conversations as to why we do the things we do in our home. My philosophy as a mom has always focused on teaching my kids how to be great adults. To do that I have focused on teaching them what it means to make choices based on using what they know and thinking through what the possible end result might be.

As my kids have grown we have moved from simple choices (usually choosing between two options or having to deal with consequence) into choices that have bigger ramifications. However, because my kids learned early to assess what options are available to them and what consequences they may be faced with they have learned critical thinking skills and how to have an open mind. What has been really fun for me throughout this process is watching and understanding a whole new level of how our choices open up to us.

Life can throw us a lot of options. We have so many choices that can overwhelm and numb us to what is so important to a successful life. Sorting that out can be challenging but it is absolutely attainable. A great tool that I have found to simplify our choices is a great DVD that has just been released called "Know For Yourself." I invite you check it out by clicking on Know For Yourself to discover ways to simplify your choices and open up your options. Happy choosing!

Hey there!

Life has taken me on some interesting twists and turns. Along the way I have had the privilege of meeting some of the coolest people who have taught me so much. This blog is all about sharing what I have learned and what I continue to learn everyday.

Are you ready?
